The Purpose, the Journey, and the Fun along the way

Here we are, two moms who love our cameras and miss our college art classes and colleagues. With a family it can be difficult to find time for the creative process. Emily and I are using this blog as a way to have fun, work on our photography, keep each other accountable, and be creative!

Each Monday one of us will post a challenge for us both to complete and post a response to by Friday that week. Over the weekend, if time permits each of us will also critique the other's work.

We hope to use this blog as a way to grow together as photographers as we continue to grow as mothers.

If you happen to stumble upon our blog, and want to join in, feel free! Just post your response, with a link to your photos in the MckLinky link for that week. Challenges stay open for three weeks after they are posted.

Challenge #50

Dear friends,

I know it has been quite some time since I disappeared from sight. We have had a crazy last three months first trying to buy a house and then when that didn't work finding and moving into a new apartment. I barely even picked up my camera in that time and really really missed the lot of you. So I hope we haven't lost too much momentum, but I wanted to try and get some photochallenges going again. :)

Since we just moved and have a few different needs in the new appartment than in the old, Sam and I have been scouring our local thrift stores for treasures (mostly for his room.) So this week's challenge is inspired by recent adventures in thrift.

The Challenge:

THRIFT

The Rules:

1.) Use your unique insight and experiences to interpret the word "Thrift" in three or less photographs.
2.) B/W, Colour, Tweaking, all allowed!
3.) McLinky will stay up for three week if you can't get to this challenge right away!
4.) Have fun!

Challenge #48

When I was in third grade our teacher, Miss Garfield, sent us all home with a simple assignment. We were to imagine that in class the next day a martian would be visiting who wanted to learn how to make a peanut butter sandwich. It was our job to write down instructions for said martian. We had no idea that Miss G was going to be our martian and that she would be following our instructions EXACTLY. All of us did our best, reading out loud what we had written, but in the end, what she had before her did not resemble, in any way, a peanut butter sandwich. Oh and there was peanut butter just about everywhere! It didn't take us long to realize why she'd been wearing gloves.

So with that inspiration this week's challenge is going to be a little more involved.

The Challenge:

Do a Photo Demo

Rules:
1.) Feel free to demo any normal thing that you do throughout your day, or if your adventurous you can do an activity for the sole purpose of using it for this challenge. (Hint for those of us with children: if this seems a bit overwhelming just capture something you do with your kid..or for your kids.)
2.) Please try to limit the images to no more than 10.
3.) Tweaking is fine if you'd like to display the images differently.
4.) Have fun!
5.) MckLinky will be open for approximately three weeks.

Challenge #47

So sorry everyone for getting this up so late! My husband and I have been house hunting and I really haven't been on the computer that much in the last few days. For this week's challenge I think I'm going to "borrow" an challenge from another site since my brain is clearly else where.

This week's challenge:

Minimalism

(hint: for a little help check out what this guy had to say.)

No rules, just do your thing and tweak if you'd like! And post as many or few photos as you'd like!

MckLinky will stay open for three weeks!

Have fun!

Happy New Year, everyone!
It was really a joy to see everyone's Christmas and holiday activities and traditions- looks like fun was had by all! And, I think I speak for everyone here, but a special congratulations to go out to Erica! If you aren't sure what I am talking about, take a look through her entries from the last challenge :)

This week's challenge is:

a Self-portrait featuring a physical attribute that you find endearing or beautiful about yourself- something that you feel makes you uniquely "you".
Submit one photo.
This photo can be color or black and white.
Go ahead and "tweak" it if you feel like it!
Entries due by Sunday, January 10.
MckLinky will stay up for 3 weeks from today (January 4)

And, as always, have fun, fellow shutterbugs!

Challenge #45

I was thinking last night about when to start our Christmas challenge and with today being our family's Christmas cookie baking day, I figured most other people have already started some of their Holiday traditions. So for the next two weeks the challenge will be very very simple.

The Challenge:
The Christmas Journal

The Rules:
1.) Keep a photographic "Journal" of your Christmas activities.
2.) Post as many or few journal entries as you'd like in the MckLinky provided below, but if you do more than one make sure you put that after your name (Diana #1, Diana #2 and so on).
3.) Challenge yourself to describe your traditions and memories in new and creative ways. Tell us a story!
4.) Have fun and create many beautiful memories!

See you all in two weeks!

Challenge #44

Hey all,
Time for a more technical challenge this week.

The challenge:
Shoes

The goal of this challenge is to take something ordinary and make it look extraordinary.

If you're a little stumped head on over to challenge #41 where we did a study on "the rule of thirds". Go ahead, click on the link there and read the article, or look that the offerings for that week.

Have fun seeing shoes through new eyes!

Challenge #43

Wow! It's so great to see so many of you back and participating in the challenges! It's so inspiring to see everyone's interpretations of the challenges. I'm happy to see that many of you are taking advantage of the extended submission deadlines. I'll continue to keep the MckLinky link open for at least three weeks after the challenge is posted.

For this week I thought we'd do a fun challenge and put off the technical challenge for another week.

This week's challenge:

TOYS!

The Rules:

1.) Submit a series of 3 photos (try to tell a story with your three images, have a little fun!)
2.) Since we've had a few people who seem to be interested in photo manipulation, tweaking is allowed.
3.) MckLinky will be up for the next three weeks so submit when you can. The sooner the better though, you'll probably get more comments that way!

Challenge #42

Happy monday, everyone!

It was good to see a couple of regulars join back in for last week's challenge! (myself included....ahem. anywho....)
This week we'll do a *somewhat* simple challenge. Submit 1-3 images at the end of this week of creative images of the sky. These can be edited/tweaked,cropped in any way.
Hope you have fun with this one!

Challenge #41

I thought we'd try another technical challenge this week. This week's challenge is inspired by a post I read over at Pioneer Woman Photography, a great photography blog!

The Challenge:

The Rule of Thirds

Submit three photographs of the same subject demonstrating the rule of thirds. You can either take three photos, cropping your image differently, or take one picture and crop it three different ways.

MckLinky will be up for two weeks.

Have fun!
